Before becoming a politician, I worked as a journalist and communications adviser. My political roots are in the anti-globalisation movement. One of my roles was as press spokesman for the STOP GATS resistance initiative against the WTO agreement. I have also written several books.

The main focal points of my work are net politcs, globalisation critique, corporation control, lobby control, competition policy & fiscal policy.

In 2004 I joined the Greens in the state of Burgenland and became press officer of the Greens organisation in the state. In 2010 I was the top Green Party candidate for the Burgenland State Parliament (Burgenländischer Landtag). I was the only Green to enter the Landtag where I was in opposition for four years.

I have been a Member of the European Parliament and the Greens/EFA group since 2014. I sit on the following committees here:

Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE)
Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON)
Committee on Culture and Education (CULT)
Committee of Inquiry into Money Laundering, Tax Avoidance and Tax Evasion (PANA)

I am also a member of the following delegations of the European Parliament:

Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria)
Delegation for relations with the Arab Peninsula (Bahrain, Yemen, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and the Gulf Cooperation Council)
Delegation for relations with Iraq

I have also been on the Committee of the European Green Party since 2015 and one of my responsibilities is the coordination of the 2019 European elections.
